Lockdown Easing – Our T’s & C’s

CANCELLATION POLICY DURING COVID LOCKDOWN EASING.

As we are now in a very difficult situation with the Covid restrictions limiting the number of rooms we can offer, due to the number of trained staff we must have on duty,  we request a non-refundable and non-transferrable deposit of 20% ,(or minimum £20 if less), of the booking fee within 5 days as per our T&Cs. This will hold the room for your cat until the full boarding fee becomes due, 21 days prior to the start of the booking.

As everyone is aware there is a risk of cancellation at the time of booking, or potential changes to the current lockdown plan, our cancellation policy stands that should the booking need to be cancelled for any reason other than a new local lockdown measures or other Governmental restriction affecting our service to you, the boarding fee is not refundable within 14 days prior to the commencement of the booking.

We are a business that is currently not required to close during lockdown measures and cannot accept ‘provisional’ bookings during this time. Any booking that is made must be done so adhering to the terms and conditions to allow the business to continue.

Many thanks for your understanding during this time – we look forward to normality resuming and a busy summer in the cattery.

Re-Opening 1st July 2020

Since 27th March we have been closed due to the amount of cancellations following the Coronavirus Lockdown.

Any deposits held for bookings from that point have been credited to future bookings or held on account for a future date to be decided.  We are aware that this has been a challenging time for everyone and we want our customers and their lovely cats to return to us.

We are planning to reopen with effect from 01 July 2020 for grooming and boarding and we are now receiving bookings for later in this year and 2021.

As there is a “new normal”, we have had to change some of our procedures to comply with our return under the Covid guidelines.

To keep operations going while maintaining health and safety of our staff and customers, please may we ask you NOT to bring your cat to us if you have had symptoms of Covid 19 in the 14 days prior to drop off or collection or are self-isolating due to being in contact with someone confirmed to have the virus. Please telephone us if this is the case.  01932 862210.

Please do not bring any bedding or toys or scratch posts from home at this time. You may still bring food if you want your cat to remain on a special diet. This should be provided in a cleanable plastic container. Do not bring bowls.

Any medication must be in clearly labelled containers with the cat’s name, dosage, method and frequency and storage instructions.

PRIOR to the boarding date, please email a copy of your cat’s up to date vaccination card, and any information you feel we should be aware of, (such as feeding instructions and frequency and any health issues) to, info@sumafarmcathotel.co.uk.

We will not be able to board your cat without this information on file so please ensure the vaccinations are up to date in good time for your booking.

We MUST be provided with an emergency contact of someone who would be able to collect your cat on your behalf, should either you or we become ill during your cat’s stay. Should we need to self-isolate for 14 days your cat would need to be collected.

We will now be requesting a £20 or 20% non-returnable or transferrable deposit for new bookings arriving from 01 July, which should be paid either at the time of booking or within 5 days to hold the room. We will then ask for balance of payment for your cat’s stay 21 days prior to the boarding date to confirm the booking either by phone or bank transfer. We are not accepting payment on site.

We will be changing some of our usual opening times to suit the level of bookings and staffing. When you confirm the booking with the final payment, you will be asked to select a drop off and pick up time. Please stick the these times as we will be expecting you. For collection, your cat will be placed in its box shortly before collection time.

On arrival please wait in your car for the cars dropping off or collecting in the parking zone to clear. We will operate a one-way system so please do not turn around and go back out via the entrance.

For drop offs, when our staff member signals to you, please place your cat in its’s carrier on the ground in front of your car and return to your car.   Our staff member wearing personal protection equipment will then pick up the carrier and feed/medication if any and after wiping the handle take the cat to its room and settle it down.

Please do not enter the reception area or any part of the cattery, or touch any doors or handles. Unfortunately for the time being we are not able to provide viewings within the cattery.

Hopefully, with these measures in place we can protect one another whilst providing excellent care for our feline guests.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back very soon.

Claw Clipping

Looking After Your Cat’s Claws

Like human nails, our feline friend’s claws grow continuously. Left to grow, there is a possibility that they could pierce the cat’s pads as they do not grow straight but curved.

Cats that spend a lot of time outside tend not to need their claws trimmed as often as house cats. During their activities outside such as climbing trees and walking on hard surfaces their nails get slightly worn down.

Trimming your cat’s claws for the first time can be a daunting task. You must pay every care to not trim them too short as there are blood vessels located at the base of the claw. As well as this, your cat could become distressed and fidget making the task even more difficult.

If you would like to avoid the hassle and stress of doing this yourself, we offer a cat nail trimming service at our cattery in Surrey. For the small price of £9 for one cat and £15 for two, during their stay with us or even if you would just like to pop in we can do it in our cat spa.

We also offer other cat grooming services that include bathing, face and ear cleaning, brushing, and clipping (lion cuts, matt removal etc.)

All of this is carried out by our trained staff in our fully equipped cat grooming spa at Suma Farm Cat Hotel in Surrey.

Five Star Cattery

2018 saw some major changes in ‘The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations’ which meant our yearly inspection was a lot more intense!

Not only did we have our facilities looked at in greater detail, but all of our supporting documentation was read through with a fine-toothed comb. This meant the Suma Farm Cat Hotel had to meet welfare and environmental legislation in order to operate as a cattery service in Surrey.

Subsequently, a new star rating was introduced for all boarding establishments, and we are very VERY happy to announce that we achieved the full 5 out of 5 rating.

We would like to thank you all for your continuing support of our small business by bringing your loved pets in to board with us

Medical Notes

Inoculations

There have been occasions when customers ask ‘why does my cat need to be inoculated’ so we have outlined the need for these vaccinations and also what we need in order for any cat to board with us.

CATTERY SITUATION

Vaccination and protection from disease of cats in a cattery is very important. Anywhere where numbers of cats are kept closely together gives potential for diseases to spread. The cat viruses are very adept at this. As boarding a cat in a cattery represents a relatively high risk and therefore a special condition, it is prudent to seek a booster vaccine within the previous 12 months for FHV and FCV in this circumstance, and maximum protection may be afforded by giving a booster vaccine in the one to two months prior to entry into a boarding cattery.

All licensed catteries have to abide by these terms so don’t accept someone telling you they can board your cat after the first initial injection or without proof of vaccination.

To ensure that your cat can be boarded at Suma Farm Cat Hotel please make certain that yearly boosters are kept up to date. Any cat being vaccinated for the first time currently requires 2 injections, usually 3 weeks apart. We cannot accept your cat for boarding until after the final injection is viable in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. This is often less than 4 weeks (usually 7 – 10 days), if in doubt please ask your Vet when the vaccine can be considered to be viable.

Cat’s without current vaccinations will be turned away. We are not accountable for reminding you to inoculate your cat.

Short Haired Cat Grooming

Why Groom Your Cat?

Grooming your cat plays a vital part in the happiness and health of your pet although it is often missed out. Not only does it create a great bonding experience between you and your cat, the grooming session can become a time to complete health checks on your cat and also keep their coat in tip top condition.

It is a myth that your cat does not need help to maintain its coat.

A cats coat gets extremely greasy especially if they are outdoor cats and like to hide under cars….. The coat is also covered with saliva from the cat licking itself, dander, debris and external parasites. Grooming can play a vital role as there are such a lot of long haired varieties, older cats and ones suffering from ill health. It is essential that your cat is groomed and handled regularly to avoid vets fees, sedation costs, health issues and stress. Knots and mats form in long haired cats and sometimes in short haired too if you are only brushing occasionally or only brushing part of the cat. These matted areas slowly tighten, usually causing raw sores below. In the end this is excruciatingly painful for a cat.

We aim to help you with maintaining your cats coat condition and to keep them in top condition. We groom short haired, semi long haired and long haired cats and have many techniques and styles to suit you and your cat.

Here are some of the benefits of our grooming sessions:

– Improves circulation – Throughout the skin and coat

– Good time for a health check – Catch any ill health in early stages and improve good health

– Removes unwanted hair and debris – Of all coat types

– Prevents fur balls – Which can cause intestinal blockages

– Good bonding time – Your cat will enjoy this contact as cats love human companionship

Wet bathing is the easiest way to keep your cat knot free and 98% of cat enjoy it
